Heritage    Historical Day tour Okahandja

The town is renowned for its historical background where the Herero and Nama people fought the invading Germans forces.  The town was founded around the 1800, by these two local inhabitants, the Nama and Herero. Some Herero and Nama chiefs are buried in Okahandja.

On the 23rd August 1850, the was a famous and big battle between Nama and Herero speaking people. This battle took place at the ‘Murder’s Hill’.

. The Dr.  Henrich Vedders House – Dr.  Henrich Vedders was a well know German missionary, linguist, ethnologist and historian. He died on the 26th April 1972 in Okahandja
